19 Jan Romain Mauger receives 2 prizes for the DELaw project
On the 20th of November 2025, Dr. Mauger received 2 prizes: both the regional (at Extremadura's scale) and the national (Spanish level) DaVinci Prize for humanities. These were granted during the IPFest 2025, an annual Spanish event were knowledge transfer is rewarded with different categories. The DaVinci prize is granted to the most integrative initiatives merging sciences, humanities and arts in the innovation context. The prizes were granted to Dr. Mauger for his academic research at the crossroads of various scientific disciplines in the field of energy, and especially so regarding the DELaw project, integrating law, degrowth theory and life-cycle analysis, mobilising a wide spectrum of disciplines.
03 Dec Yuly Choque attends Beyond Growth conference in Madrid
On 26 September 2025, Yuly Choque, PhD candidate within the DElaw project, attended the Beyond Growth conference taking place at the Spanish Parliament, in Madrid. This event created an international forum dedicated to the analysis and promotion of degrowth as a political, social and economic framework to respond to the current eco-social crisis.
07 Oct Romain Mauger presents on Degrowth and Energy Law at ELU-S conference in Prague
Dr. Mauger participated to the European Law Unbound Society (ELU-S) inaugural conference, held in Prague from the 24th to the 27th of October 2025. On this occasion, he delivered a presentation entitled "Integrating degrowth theory within EU energy law: A vanishing light at the end of the tunnel?", as a part of a degrowth-focused panel, itself named: "A fair and sustainable Europe through degrowth: Research results from energy, competition and agri-food law".
05 Oct Romain Mauger presents (online) on Energy Commons & Degrowth at University of Groningen, Netherlands
On the 19th of September 2025, Dr. Mauger participated online to the workshop entitled: "A Research Agenda for Energy Commons Law". This workshop organised by Prof Björn Hoops gathered dozens of academics to reflect on the legal frameworks pertaining to energy commons (or the measures which should be implemented to facilitate their creation and management). On this occasion, Romain Mauger was invited to deliver a keynote presentation on "Energy Commons & Degrowth". It was the occasion to stress the links between degrowth and the commons in general and more specifically between degrowth and energy communities.
20 Feb Romain Mauger delivers an online guest lecture at UC Davis
Dr. Mauger was invited to deliver an online guest lecture on the 13th of February 2025 for the UC Davis Energy Justice Seminar Series, organised by University of California at Davis students of the Energy & Efficiency Institute. The presentation is entitled: "The Grand Challenge of integrating non-legal, radical theories into EU law and its member states’: the cases of energy justice, energy sufficiency and degrowth". 08 Sep Extremadura has received €1.5 million from the European Commission’s most prestigious scientific research program for the first time.
The European Research Council, the European Commission's largest program for funding excellence in scientific research, grants the region €1.5 million for the first time.
